Wrapped in Light - abstract paintings

Wrapped in Light is a series of playful abstract paintings, made by overlapping layers of imagery taken from both natural and man-made forms. They begin with photographs - snapshots of flowers, a mooring rope reflected in water, rocks, flames, or architectural elements.

Forms are selected, drawn onto paper and blocked in. This process is repeated several times, building up layers of contrasting, overlapping shapes that disrupt boundaries yet create a rich tapestry of vibrant hues and patterns. Due to these fluid boundaries, one loses and finds images each time one looks at the pictures. It is as though it were not possible to hold everything in focus at the same moment. Which is the top layer, which the bottom?

The works celebrate the beauty of the ordinary - small details of patterns and surfaces to be found wherever one looks.
